The ΕρΓΑ Lab was founded in 2002 and is headed by Professor Ioannis Emiris, currently President and Director General of ATHENA Research & Innovation Center.
The Lab is affiliated with ATHENA Research & Innovation Center and the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. It is part of the joint team AROMATH affiliated with INRIA Sophia-Antipolis (France).
ΕρΓΑ examines real world questions, addressing the entire spectrum of problem solving, starting with algorithm design, up to software development and application to the specific problem. In particular, our expertise lies in the following domains:
- the study and solution of polynomial equations and systems, with particular attention to sparse and structured systems, resultant theory, and root counts;
- symbolic-numeric computation, the interplay of exact and approximation computing, and structured linear algebra;
- computational geometry, with a focus on Voronoi diagrams of complex shapes, and convex hull in general dimension;
- convex, and combinatorial geometry with a focus on mixed volume, and convex volume by means of approximation algorithms for sampling and random walks;
- metric geometry, dimensionality reduction, high-dimensional similarity search, and clustering,
- mathematical modeling of the physical world, with applications in geometric modeling, VLSI design, bioinformatics, rigidity theory, robotics and vision, as well as game theory and fintech.
- regression, forecasting, and geometric deep learning.
Our dedicated office space is room A8, 1st floor of the department’s building at the NKUA Campus.
